Clock choke — the classic, no-gi version

Purple beltNo-Gi0:06Archive lesson

Deivid shows the classic clock choke without the gi. His caption calls it "a Nogi version of a classic jiu jitsu technique clock choke," and the on-screen text in the clip reads "NoGi Clock Choke." With no collar to grab, the arm around the neck does the work against a partner in turtle.

The breakdown — piece by piece

STEP 1 · 0:00–0:02

Set up beside the turtle

Your partner is on hands and knees in turtle. You kneel at the side of his head, chest over his back, and reach one arm around the front of his neck, locking your hands together under his chin.

STEP 2 · 0:02–0:04

Walk the clock

Keeping the lock on, walk your body around toward the top of his head, the way the hands of a clock move. Your head comes down toward the mat as you circle.

STEP 3 · 0:04–0:06

Drop your weight and finish

Fold your body over the back of his head and drop your chest and head to the mat. He flattens out under the pressure as the choke tightens.
