White Belt · First Principles
Deivid's caption says it plainly: "Two different ways to tie your BJJ belt." The clip runs two demonstrators in white gis side by side, each tying a black belt at the same time so the two ways can be compared.
Both demonstrators hold the belt at the front of the waist and wrap the ends around the back, crossing them behind before bringing them forward again.
With both ends back at the front, they cross the ends over each other at the centre of the waist, over the wrapped belt.
Each demonstrator finishes the knot his own way — one end is tucked up under the wrapped layers and the ends are worked into a loop and a cross at the front. The two sides of the screen do not make the same movements here; this is where the two ways separate.
Both pull the two ends outward to tighten, and finish standing with the knot centred at the front and the ends hanging level.
